"Keep An Open Mind to Creative Opportunities"
by Patricia Snow
Patricia's Art Gallery

As soon as I could hold a pencil I loved to draw, and like most children, I was always interested in arts and craft projects.  Then like alot of people, I grew up, got married and became a busy mom.  Then most of my creativity went into my nesting instincts; home, decorating, sewing, needlepoint, etc.  Now that my two children are teens, I have more time to pursue my art.
I took an art course and also lessons locally then my art teacher suggested I start selling since I was producing so much work.

I started selling my painting four years ago.
I got alot of ideas on selling from reading various art magazines, and after I put up a website, I learned alot from exchanging links with other artist websites.  I like to always keep open to new opportunities so when I noticed the handcrafted jewelry being sold at an arts & crafts fair where I displayed my paintings, I decided to try that too.  I researched the how to's on the web and found lots of free instruction.  Once I learned the basics, I was off and running.  I love making jewelry just as much as I love painting. I sell my jewelry at craft fairs, on-line, and at home jewelry parties.  I also sell my art on cards and along with my jewelry at the home shows, I also sell handpainted jewelry boxes!  Selling jewelry at home parties has turned out great, and I get alot of repeat business because people like my jewelry.  I offer the hostess a percentage of the sale in free jewelry, and I also have a drawing for a door prize.  I use alot of semi-precious gem stones, so I talk about the various stones, their origin and how to care for them, which I find people like.  now I find people come to me for custom paintings as well as made jewelry.

What started as a hobby has turned into a part time business.  I started off slowly because at first it was just a hobby and
I didn't want to become stressed with demands that would take the fun out of being creative.  As I have sold my art, I was able to reinvest and start a business that is growing.  It's turned out well because its been fun without out alot of stress or risk.
